Meet Marcos Hernandez
“I’ve learned that good can always come out of bad.”
Now a student at Wiregrass Technical College, Marcos wrote a letter in early 2024 thanking Raintree Village for helping him. Here are some excerpts…
“When I heard about Raintree, I was with my Aunt at the time. The judge had me stay with her due to what the judge called ‘Child Neglect’ from my Mother, but this is not to tell you a sob story. This is to explain how Raintree helped me through my situation…”
“When I first arrived at Raintree in February 2023, I didn’t know what to expect as it would be my first time in a group home and also be my first time living outside of Douglas, GA.”
“… as far as meeting new people I was never one for talking. The word to describe me (was) ‘Anti-Social’. With that being said, arriving at Raintree caused my anxiety to just go crazy along with paranoia which ties in with my trust issues. ”

“So there I was looking around every minute, … making sure I was safe … and closed off, staying to myself. I should mention arriving at Raintree comes with warm welcomes and amazing people who not only care for you but look after each and every one of the youths that enter Raintree, which to me is a blessing. ”
“As the weeks went by, I started to adapt to my surroundings (allowing) me to be at ease with myself and those around me. To go with that, if it wasn’t for the Raintree Staff members … I don’t think I would be at this level of calmness I’m at right now. This is why I have that unconditional love for Raintree because, like I stated earlier, they are here for us when we need them… I’ve had people there for me in the past but they gave up on me a long time ago.”
“… nowadays kids like myself are out there going through hard times thinking they are alone, and places like Raintree allow us to realize we are not alone. We just have to be willing to accept help which I think is hard for most kids because (they think) being alone is normal and it’s just not. ”
“I want to thank Raintree for that because I was lost for so long… The last thing I want to mention about Raintree, and I know He always comes first, but I saved the BEST for last. Just like myself, Raintree Village has GOD on their journey with them and I show my respect to them for that.”
